Samochody dramatycznie zmieniły krajobraz świata w XX w. Przy milionach kilometrów dróg powstały: stacje serwisowe, garaże, motele, restauracje, osiedla mieszkaniowe, całe miasta. Projektanci nie tylko odpowiadali na nowe potrzeby, ale – zainspirowani pojazdami – proponowali nowe formy itypy funkcjonalne. Wystartowali z impetem, optymizmem i brawurą.
