Polish! Contemporary Art...

To również próba zdefiniowania współczesnego świata, analiza człowieka i umiejscowienia go w społeczeństwie. To tematy takie jak fikcja i rzeczywistość, ludzka percepcja i jej granice, kanon estetyczny i łamanie go... Najnowsza publikacja wydawnictwa Hatje Cantz to prezentacja 38 polskich artystów młodego pokolenia cenionych nie tylko w kraju, lecz także za granicą. Album przedstawia takich twórców jak m.in.: Paweł Althamer, Cezary Bodzianowski, Katarzyna Kozyra, Robert Kuśmirowski, Dominik Lejman i Wilhelm Sasnal. W książce znajdziemy więc 38 esejów i ponad 500 ilustracji przedstawiających najciekawsze prace.

Reflect: Barkow Leibinger

158,55 zł Cena
Dostępność: na zamówienie How might an architect design a building whose context hasn't yet been determined? Digital Media City is a new urban quarter in Seoul, zoned to grow up between the airport and the city center. But it's still on the drawing board: the site for the Barkow Leibinger project documented here was a lone parcel of land diagonally across from a new park. Given their uncertainty about neighboring structures, Frank Barkow and Regine Leibinger equipped theirs with the ability to kaleidoscopically reflect its surroundings--whatever they turn out to be--in a dimensional, folded glass facade. Reflect documents the process of this building's design and construction through texts, photographs and video stills. Work was completed in late 2006; the result is a versatile face in the midst of facelessness.

Alvar & Aino Aalto Design...

118,65 zł Cena
Dostępność: na zamówienie Hugo Alvar Henrik Aalto (1898-1976), the most important Finnish architect of the twentieth century, was also one of the most noteworthy modern furniture designers. His bentwood Paimio Chair is regarded along with comparable seating furniture by Marcel Breuer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Charles Eames as one of the incunabula of twentieth-century design. His complete system of furniture-including stools, chairs, armchairs and a tea trolley with oversized wheels, all characterised by curving lines-was considered exemplary and acquired by the New York Museum of Modern Art as early as 1938. In collaboration with his first wife Aino Marsio (1894-1949), he also designed organic, floral forms in glass. His legendary Savoy Vase of 1936, created for the hotel of the same name, and the group of bowls designed to be combined to form the "Aalto Flower" have often been compared to sculptures and paintings of Classical Modernism. This extensive publication presents the pioneering furniture, glass objects and lamps of Alvar and Aino Aalto in a large selection of photographs, paintings, drawings and sketches.

Cesar Pelli & Associates

Dostępność: na zamówienie Sections through a Practice: Cesar Pelli & Associates offers a unique analysis of the diverse and significant work of Cesar Pelli & Associates. Based on a concept by Bruce Mau Design, the book draws upon the firm's entire body of work to reveal themes that cross in multiple and distinct directions. It focuses on a series of these themes, making the firm's practice tangible, offering a richer, truer rendering and understanding of its work. This book presents not only the work of the firm but also its innovative and collaborative approach to the design process. With essays by Joseph Giovannini on the recent work of the firm and by Hiroyuki Suzuki on its work in Japan, Sections through a Practice provides insight into both the latest projects of the firm as well as its broad global practice. Photographs of nearly two hundred projects, both built and designed, have been filtered by these themes to present a visual coherence and rationale for each. Bruce Mau Design's graphic approach to Sections through a Practice creates an individual visual approach for each theme. 'Cuts' between sections alert the reader to the specificity and succession of the themes. The book's size and materials place it emphatically between a picture book and a novel-large enough to feature detailed photography but compact enough to be comfortably read.

Donald Judd Architecture

139,65 zł Cena
Dostępność: na zamówienie One of the leading representatives of Minimalism, Donald Judd's "specific objects," made of steel, wood, aluminum, and Plexiglass, undertook a radical and revolutionary analysis and redefinition of sculpture as it exists in space. Somewhat less familiar are Judd's numerous architectural and furniture designs, works which are closely related in formal terms to his ubiquitous art objects but which much more successfully reflect his concerns with utility. To best understand this aspect of Judd's work, a visit to Marfa, Texas is in order. In 1971, Judd bought an old fort near this small town; by systematically acquiring and transforming more and more local property, he amassed the largest ensemble of contemporary art in the world, with permanent installations of his own work and that of Carl Andre, John Chamberlan, Dan Flavin, and others. "Donald Judd: Architecture" presents drawings, design sketches, ground plans, and photographs of the grounds and architecture of this Minimalist desert oasis, and bears witness to Judd's role as the visionary architect and stage director of his own oeuvre. This book first appeared in 1991, in German. It has been thoroughly revised and expanded for this, its first English edition. "Art and architecture--all the arts--do not have to exist in isolation, as they do now. This fault is very much a key to the present society. Architecture is nearly gone, but it, art, all the arts, in fact all parts of the society, have to be rejoined, and joined more than they have ever been. This would be democratic in a good sense, unlike the present increasing fragmentation into separate but equal categories." --Donald Judd Edited by Peter Noever, of MAK, Vienna. Essays by Donald Judd, Rudi Fuchs, Brigitte Huck.

J. MAYER H. (Jürgen Mayer H.)

Dostępność: na zamówienie A complete survey of the work of J. Mayer H., whose very first building won them the coveted Mies van der Rohe Emerging Architect Prize in 2003. J. MAYER H. Architects, founded in Berlin in 1996 by Jürgen Mayer H., has won a number of awards for their extraordinary work. In recent years, they have created a furor with attention-getting buildings such as the new commons for the Universität Karlsruhe or the AdA 1 offices in Hamburg . In particular, Metropol Parasol, a gigantic structure for the market place in the heart of old Seville , has made J. MAYER H. Architects one of the offices most discussed by architecture critics. Edited by Henry Urbach and Cristina Steingräber, this is the first book to present the entire oeuvre of J. MAYER H., starting with research and moving through design to project development, and culminating in the actual building itself. A number of renowned authors, such as Rolf Fehlbaum, Andres Lepik, John Paul Ricco, Ilka und Andreas Ruby, Felicity D. Scott, Henry Urbach, und Philip Ursprung take a variety of approaches toward positioning the office’s work in today’s international architecture scene.

Mies and Modern Living...

210,00 zł Cena
Dostępność: na zamówienie In 1929 Barcelona was host to the World Arts Fair, an international architecture and design exposition attended by members of the Spanish royalty and many senior European government officials. It was an occasion for cultural grandstanding, an opportunity for countries to parade their native talent. So when the German government approached Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969) to design a pavilion, he was left in no doubt as to their expectations--and he met them, erecting an ultra-modern creation in glass, steel and four types of marble. Once he had accomplished this, Mies then set about designing furniture for his building--something none of his competitors appear to have thought of. Thus was born the iconic Barcelona chair, an ingenious blend of clean Modernist steel tubing and comfort-appeal cushioning. Gathering the proceedings of a 2007 symposium on van der Rohe, this publication takes the Barcelona chair as a starting point to address his progressive ideas on interior space and continuities between architecture and furniture design. Experts trace the highlights of Mies' career and flesh out a context for his innovations in the ferment of 1920s and 1930s Berlin. Also included is a series of previously unpublished photographs of Mies' work.

Ready for Take-Off...

152,25 zł Cena
Dostępność: na zamówienie An increasing number of German architects are “ready for take-off” into the league of global players in architecture. The firms selected for this publication are all currently working on their first large-scale projects outside of Germany. “Typical German” qualities—such as the potential for innovation, integrating designs into existing urban contexts, and maintaining high standards of technical knowledge—combined with classic secondary virtues—such as conscientiousness, reliability, and punctuality—are often crucial in winning international competitions and building contracts. In this publication, each architectural firm and its respective engineering partner not only presents a current foreign project, but also one of their completed buildings in Germany, thus providing a glimpse into the practical aspect of their working methods.

Australian Architecture...

138,60 zł Cena
Dostępność: na zamówienie In Australia, many aspects of architectural Modernism have been transformed, interpreted, used, reformed and converted to that country's very particular geographic qualities, perhaps to a greater degree than in most other countries. Much Australian Modernist architecture is characterized by the pervasive presence of strong light, and by ranging structures that spread out across the terrain, avoiding any hierarchical organization of component parts in ways that would be impractical and inappropriate elsewhere. Living the Modern traces the unusually independent development of Australian architecture, through examples of constructions built in the last 15 years by 25 different architects. The culturally and environmentally specific development of Modern architecture (especially homes) in Australia demonstrates what a truly diverse "Progressive Modernism" might be. Essays by Philip Drew, Philip Goad and Gevorks Hartoonian elucidate its unique qualities.

Steven Holl LOISIUM World...

95,55 zł Cena
Dostępność: na zamówienie A few years ago, on the edge of Langenlois, Austria, in the midst of rolling vineyards, three neighboring families faced a puzzle: recent technology had made their extensive cellars, some up to 900 years old, obsolete for wine production. What to do with the space? This unique meeting of traditional viniculture, ancient building technology and contemporary architecture and scholarship was the answer. It comprises a flagship entrance hall, multimedia exhibits on wine production throughout the now-linked cellars, and a hotel and art garden. Both the hotel and the slightly tilted cube of the welcome hall--it lists five degrees to the south, pulling, as the vines do, towards the sun--were designed by the acclaimed American architect Steven Holl, who was inspired by the geometry of the subterranean cellars. World of Wine Loisium is an absorbing document of the four-part project. It includes essays about the region, a collection of Holl's own views of the project (he is, as well as an architect, a widely published writer on architecture), and essays about the global phenomena of star architects and the developers who commission their work, putting the project into a larger perspective.

Dostępność:na zamowienie From Romantic Interior Painting to the Home Design of the Future Featuring installations, photographs, videos, and paintings, reconstructed historical interiors, modern design objects, experimental and legendary pieces of furniture, this book is an historical survey of 250 years of domestic history. The fascinating interaction between interior painting and interior design ranging from Romanticism to design concepts for the home of the future is explored in this comprehensive publication. Interieur/Exterieur This publiaction features paintings, sculptures, installations, reconstructions of interiors, furniture, photographs, and videos as well as digital animations by seventy-eight renowned artists, designers, and architects, such as Caspar David Friedrich, Henry van de Velde, Edvard Munch, Henri Matisse, Marcel Breuer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Zaha Hadid, and Ronan, in addition to Erwan Bouroullec, Tobias Rehberger, and Andrea Zittel. This publication thus unites two aspects of modernity in the discourse on living and life in an exceedingly rich compendium: the interior as an inner view and the setting for artistic reflection as well as the interior in living concepts between art and design in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries charts individual chapters in the history of a constant convergence of art and design that ultimately led to a reciprocal permeation: while artists are producing objects and environments, designers are avowing themselves of artistic methods.

A cathedral of energy production in Japan meets the temples of ancient Egypt, the informal architecture of the slums, the grid-like façades of an enormous apartment complex in Paris, or the textures of nighttime light in a megalopolis. In the photographs by Andreas Gursky (*1955 in Leipzig), living environments, locations throughout our globalized world, and arenas of historical and political power are transformed into emblematic pictorial compositions. This publication assembles about fifteen large-format works taken by the world-famous photographer between 1988 and the present. Architecture is a special focus here, a central complex of themes in the oeuvre of the Düsseldorf-based artist. For the first time, each of Gursky's photographs is accompanied by commentary by a well-known author. The kaleidoscope of texts and images attractively demonstrates the depth and breadth of his concept of architecture, with a concentration on the structures and textures of the buildings' exterior and interior spaces.
