After the Spanish Civil War he moved to the United States and opened Town Planning Associates with Paul Lester Wiener and Paul Schulz. He taught at many universities, including Harvard, where he served as dean of the School of Design. Before his death in 1983 he returned to his native Spain.

Over the last thirty years, Candida Hofer has created meticulously composed images of the interiors of public and institutional spaces - spaces marked with the richness of human activity, yet largely devoid of human presence. 7500 gates for Central Park In February 2005, Christo and Jeanne-Claude will complete a monumental work of art in New York City's Central Park. The project, first conceived in 1979, will feature 7500 16-foot-high vinyl gates lining the park's paths, from which will hang saffron-colored fabric panels. Seen from the buildings surrounding the park, The Gates will look like a golden, flowing river, while those walking through them will experience the ambience of a fluid, golden ceiling.
Eduardo Souto de Moura (b 1952) has long been one of Portugal's leading architects but gained wider international recognition when he won the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2011. Born in Porto, he collaborated with the much-respected Alvaro Siza from 1974 to 1979 before establishing his own architectural studio in 1980. Since then, he has completed more than 100 projects ranging from private houses such as his Casa do Cinema for film director Manoel de Oliveira in Porto (2002) to larger projects such as the stadium in Braga (2004), the venue for the 2004 European Championships.

In 1930, when Albert Frey (1903-1998) came to the US from his native Switzerland, he brought the influence of his mentor, Le Corbusier, with him. The innovative Aluminaire House that he developed together with A. L. Kocher was exhibited in 1932 by Henry-Russell Hitchcock and Philip Johnson in the legendary show in the Museum of Modern Art in New York “The International Style: Architecture since 1922” as one of the very few American examples of the movement.
