WOOD HOUSES
THE GREAT FAMILY HOUSES OF...
RENOVATING FOR LIVING
Sometimes restoring a building is more complicated than constructing a new one, not simply because of the historical value of the part which is to be preserved, but also bearing in mind the state of the structure is often not known before the project gets underway. This makes these commissions a real challenge as the architect must put into practice very different strategies to those deployed on a new-build, often resulting in a very satisfying experience. This book presents 28 case studies of sensitive conversions, including work from Enric Miralles, Jo Crepain and Greg Gong.
FRENCH CHATEAU
The French Chateau provides a privileged view into the special world that lies within France's grand historical houses, a view hitherto afforded only to a selected circle of the French aristocracy and their friends. These stately residences are not dusty uninhabited museums, but real homes. Christiane de Nicolay-Mazery, herself born and brought up in her family's magnificent property at Montfort-le-Rotrou, takes us across France to visit the great chateaux she knows so well, giving us an intimate view of the unique way of life that goes on in them through the seasons. In the spring we attend a wedding at Jean de Beistegui's Chateau de Groussay.
