Granice pomiędzy tu definiowanymi wsią a miastem często się zacierają. Ich cech funkcjonalne i przestrzenne w wielu wypadkach nie mogą być oceniane jednoznacznie, tj. wieś może posiadać cechy określone jako miejskie, a miasto może odpowiadać warunkom określonym jako wiejskie.
