Architekturę sakralną XX wieku cechowała niespotykana wcześniej różnorodność formuł artystycznych. Przyczyną takiego stanu rzeczy było pojawienie się na przełomie XIX i XX wieku nowych idei teologicznych i koncepcji artystycznych, które pozostawały w sprzeczności z bardziej tradycyjnymi ujęciami.
