Zamość jest miastem niezwykłym, jednym z nielicznych zachowanych zespołów renesansowych nie tylko w Polsce, lecz również w Europie. Jego walory artystyczne, doskonałe zharmonizowanie z otaczającym terenem, stosunkowo dobrze znane dzieje, pozwalają widzieć w tym mieście wybitny pomnik urbanistyki i architektury swojego czasu. Dzieło to, ukształtowane w specyficznych warunkach mecenatu kanclerza i hetmana Jana Zamoyskiego, niewątpliwe jest przykładem harmonijnej współpracy pomiędzy włoskim architektem Bernardem Morando a polskim fundatorem. W Zamościu – co nie zawsze się zdarza – zachowały się, poza renesansowym układem planistycznym, autentyczne budowle z przełomu XVI i XVII w.
