Opowieść o mieście, które żyło w rytmie tanga Warszawa przed rokiem 1939 miała niepowtarzalny klimat. Zagraniczni goście nazywali ją wówczas „Paryżem Północy”. Miasto zachwycało architekturą, tętniło życiem, imponowało dynamiką rozwoju, było też pełne kontrastów. Tu mieszkali , pracowali i tworzyli obok siebie przedstawiciele różnych wyznań. Elity mijały się z biedotą, elegancja i bogactwo wyróżniały się na tle brzydoty, jednak w powszechnej pamięci zachowały się obrazy najwyższego gmachu Prudential, piękna zabudowa Alei Ujazdowskich, legendarna Adria, czy gwarny Karcelak.
