"Drawing for Urban Design" explores a range of ways to represent the city, from freehand sketching to the sophisticated interactive computer model of the city of the future. There are many ways to engage with images of the city by exploring and considering what exists as well as imagining future ideas for the development of the city. Many professionals need to describe city environments in the course of their work. This can be done through maps, sketches, computer renderings or models. This book provides an introduction to these techniques while explaining the processes associated with describing and designing urban environments. Following a brief introduction the book is divided into five parts.
Dostępność:na zamowienie Well-known author Leslie Geddes-Brown traces the history of the decorative use of water in the garden, from the tinkling fountains of ancient Persian enclosures to the most avant-garde creations by twenty-first century designers. Thematic chapters present water gardens of all types, from Islamic and Oriental to romantic and formal, and from landscape gardens to town gardens.
Dostępność:na zamowienie Vertical gardens are an exciting means of bringing life and greenery to a bleak courtyard, a grey city street or a cold modern building. This is the first book to present a collection of the most important examples of this emerging trend. Those who create vertical gardens apply the principles of hydroponics (a technique of growing plants in water containing dissolved nutrients) and use ingenious framing systems that allow luxuriant plant life to colonize the exteriors of buildings.
Urban design involves the arrangement, appearance and functionality of towns and cities, with a particular focus on public spaces such as parks, squares and gardens as well as infrastructure and privately owned spaces. The design of these public spaces has become increasingly important to the long-term development and well-being of communities, and can provide towns and cities with a unique identity.
Landscaping is the design of open spaces, using both live and inert elements to transform and order nature. However, the landscaping of residential gardens and areas can address different criteria to that of their larger, public counterparts. Ideas such as privacy and concepts that take the family into account prevail over other considerations. It is as if the garden becomes another room of the house, lived in and used on a daily basis. This book presents more than 30 examples of urban garden designs by Ignasi and Xavier Bisbe (Arboretum).
Dostępność:na zamowienie "Urban Eco Chic" shows how we can all recycle materials, use sustainable products and become increasingly energy-efficient in our own homes, without compromising our sense of style. The fact that we must become more eco-aware of the way we live is not in question; the issue is how can we do so without sacrificing the level of comfort and luxury to which so many of us are now accustomed.
Terraces and balconies have always been essential architectural features - they are effectively the continuation of a dwelling outdoors. Terraces are mostly related directly to the landscape surrounding a building. They can frame a view - for instance, through canopies or side walls - they can imitate particular landscape elements on their own more human scale, or they can enable the landscape to be perceived and experienced in a different way.

Dostępność:na zamowienie In this unique book influential garden designer Dan Pearson, weekly columnist for The Observer, discloses his personal inspirations. Dan uses his own distinctive photographs as reference points giving the reader a direct and intimate insight into where and what he draws upon when working on his own projects. The images show how he looks at his surroundings, and importantly, how they inform his approach of working with nature rather than attempting to dominate it. The theme running throughout the book is that of being able to read different landscapes, being open to ideas, and to take inspiration from many varying sources.
Dostępność:na zamowienie Whatever the importance of a garden, it will always be a place for relaxation, communal gatherings or sensual pleasures. The contemporary gardens collected in this book are a cross-section of current trends, notable not only for their use of new materials and construction techniques, but above all for their single, shared characteristic: in every case, they are small urban gardens.
