Książka "U źródeł modernizmu Józefa Rykwerta" (tłum. Ewa Klekot) to jedna z klasycznych pozycji kanonu publikacji z zakresu teorii i historii architektury.
Autor podsumował w niej nowatorski program nauczania historii architektury, który wprowadził w latach 1968–1978 na Uniwersytecie Essex w Colchester. Rykwert do perfekcji opanował sztukę tłumaczenia architektury europejskiej, a wokół architektonicznych fenomenów z lat 1660–1780 i z początków nowoczesności stworzył niezwykły obraz dwóch wieków historii, które prześledził z rzadko dziś spotykaną erudycją.
